What the racing community thinks about the proposal to destroy Rosehill Gardens Racecourse

Former Councillor for Parramatta

History and tradition make Rosehill Gardens Racecourse one of the great thoroughbred racing venues, not just in Australia, but the world. It is the equivalent to suggesting cricket should sell the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, or Adelaide Oval for housing. I am totally opposed to the sale of Rosehill.

It is an irreplaceable asset not only for the thoroughbred industry, but also for the Parramatta and Western Suburbs Community. As an active ATC Member of 15 years standing, a thoroughbred horse owner and breeder, and a regular attendee to both Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick, I am completely against the sale.

Attending Rosehill races in my 20’s introduced me & many other racing enthusiasts of my generation to horse racing. You can’t develop that same love & passion for racing watching from the pub or on TV at home. It would be very disappointing if the next generation from western parts of Sydney can’t experience what we did.
