Save Rosehill
By now, many of you will be aware that on Friday March 28, Racing NSW directed the Australian Turf Club (ATC) to postpone the member vote on the proposed sale of Rosehill. We are seeking legal advice as to whether they can compel the ATC Board to ride roughshod over ATC members rights.
We believe they know that the majority of the members have already voted against the resolutions to allow the sale of Rosehill Gardens.
This last-minute directive is a blatant attempt to silence your voice – a desperate move that flies in the face of democratic process, and contradicts all prior statements made by the Premier in Parliament about the independence of the ATC and the rights of its members.
Even in the absence of full transparency or detailed planning documents, members overwhelmingly recognised what’s at stake – not just the loss of a racecourse, but a betrayal of everything Rosehill represents to the racing community. The widespread belief that Racing NSW would ultimately control the proceeds – just as they are now attempting to control the vote itself – has only deepened our conviction this whole process is a sham.
We are pursuing avenues to ensure member concerns remain front and centre – including continuing steps to remove Peter McGauran as a Director of the ATC, whose leadership throughout this process has contributed to this situation.
If you haven’t already signed the petition please do so.
If you have, please share it with other members who care about the future of racing.
We are more determined than ever to ensure that decisions about our racecourses, our memberships, and our community are made with integrity, and genuine consultation – qualities that the current leadership has proven itself incapable of delivering.
Do not support the sale of Rosehill
Losing Rosehill means we will be providing sub-standard racing which is directly contrary to the ATC’s object and core purpose of horse racing.
Sydney needs two premier racetracks
Top-level racing depends on it. It is essential to sustain a thriving thoroughbred industry.Failure to identify a viable alternative site for Rosehill which was fundamental to the Chair’s undertaking to Members
The two stated new sites in the proposal are presently not viable and not available.
Betrayal of Western Sydney
Rosehill has been a racing icon since 1885 and is home to the Golden Slipper, globally recognised as the best two-year old race in the world.Breaking a key merger promise to members
The 2010 merger committed to maintaining Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick as premier tracks. No financial imperative to sell Rosehill Gardens
Funds to deliver first class racing and better members facilities can be raised by the sale of surplus land.Reported financial proceeds are proposed at $5b over 15 years
In reality, the present day value will be substantially less.Control of funds
There is no certainty of the proceeds going to the ATC without an undertaking from Racing NSW and the NSW Government as to who will control the funds.
It was revealed at the Upper House Inquiry that Racing NSW intends to control the proceeds of the sale
The ATC may get only a fraction. The majority of the ATC Board don’t agree on the proposal presented
But the ATC Code of Conduct silences their true opinion. The ATC is a Members Club and Members have zero confidence in the ATC Board and Executive and in its due diligence process
One of the lead consultants making recommendations on the sale have been engaged and paid for by Racing NSW.
