Campaign position
The "Save Rosehill" campaign aims to champion the rights of ATC members and ensure that no decision is made without their consent.
The Save Rosehill campaign is supported by many highly respected leaders in the racing industry who are also members of the ATC including Julia Ritchie (former Vice Chair ATC), Debbie Kepitis, Matt McGrath (former chair of ATC), Frank Cook, Bob Charley (former Chair AJC), Greg Kenny (former Vice Chair STC), Neil Werrett, Jason Abrahams and Annette English.
Leading trainers including Gai Waterhouse, Chris Waller, John O’Shea and Anthony Cummings are also supporters.
All interested parties, especially ATC members and local residents, are encouraged to visit the Save Rosehill website to register support and stay up-to-date on upcoming events and key developments. Community leaders and industry stakeholders are urged to also register their support and let us know their thoughts on the future of Rosehill.
Summarised below are the key reasons why the "Save Rosehill" group are against the sale:
- We are opposed to the sell-off of Rosehill Racecourse because there is currently no viable proposal that would allow NSW racing to sustain the current level of first class racing at an alternative location in Greater Western Sydney. All alternative proposals are deeply flawed, highly unlikely to ever eventuate, and will diminish the future of NSW racing which is to the detriment of all racing enthusiasts.
- Rosehill Racecourse is a huge asset to the local community. It offers irreplaceable green spaces, conference & exhibition facilities, outdoor entertainment and concert space with easy access parking and a new light rail station.
- The total redevelopment of Rosehill is a high-risk proposition. It is highly unlikely that the ATC would ever receive anywhere near the speculative sums that proponents of the sale are spruiking. Instead, first class racing in GWS will likely never return with only one premium racetrack at Randwick, we’ll fall further behind Melbourne, which has three first class racetracks.
